Goel noted that many contractors fail to complete civil works on time, yet departments keep extending them instead of appointing new contractors. This approach is unacceptable and should be stopped immediately, he said. Goel was speaking in a meeting held at the KDMC headquarters on June 3.
The commissioner stressed that proposals for contract extensions should not be submitted. Instead, the process of appointing new contractors should be initiated at least a month before the tender deadline. Any delay or negligence in this process will lead to disciplinary action against the department heads concerned or executive engineers.
Reports indicate that some contractors frequently get maintenance and repair work through departmental favouritism, which is supported by long-standing officials in the construction, engineering, general administration and other departments. Despite complaints, no strict action has been taken due to internal involvement.
To ensure transparency and efficiency, Goel made it clear that no contractor should be given an extension. All departments should plan accordingly and bring proposals for new contractor appointments in advance.
