Karanja Port to become largest fishing harbour in India: Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis announces major development

Uran: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced plans to develop Karanja Port in Raigad district into the country's largest fishing harbour. At an event headline on Sunday, 1st September, Deputy CM Fadnavis confirmed that a fund of Rs. 15 3 crores would be allocated to expedite the construction of the fishing port, which will accommodate up to 1,000 fishing boats. The development will include a state-of-the-art jetty, underscoring the state government's commitment to enhancing the port's infrastructure.

The announcement came during the inauguration of several development projects in Uran, including the new administrative building of Uran Municipal Council, Savitribai Phule Full Market, Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhawan and Community Development Centre, Uran Town Hall, and the Upahzilla Hospital. The event was attended by Industries Minister and Guardian Minister of Raigad District Uday Samant, former MP Ramsheth Thakur, and other notable officials.

Fadnavis highlighted the significant impact of the Nhava-Sheva Atal Setu and the upcoming Navi Mumbai Airport, emphasizing their roles in transforming Raigad into an industrial hub. He projected that these developments would drive economic growth and increase the region's GDP by 1 percent. Additionally, Fadnavis noted that Raigad and Navi Mumbai are emerging as key data centers, handling a substantial portion of the nation's data capacity.

The new fishing harbour is expected to boost the export capacity and support local fishermen's interests. Fadnavis praised MLA Mahesh Baldi, a key advocate for the Karanja fishing port, for his persistent efforts and effective development work in the constituency. He assured that all necessary support and funds would be provided to facilitate the port's development.

Guardian Minister Uday Samant also emphasized the importance of addressing fishermen's issues and supporting comprehensive development in Uran. He acknowledged Mahesh Baldi's significant contributions and reiterated that additional funds would be allocated through district annual planning to further enhance Uran's development.
