London (England): Harry Kane has won the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or, becoming the first English player to receive football’s most prestigious individual honour since Michael Owen in 2001. The Bayern Munich and England striker was crowned at a ceremony held at the London Palladium on Monday.
Kane, 33, delivered a record-breaking 2025-26 campaign, scoring 61 goals in 51 matches for Bayern across all competitions as the German club completed a domestic league and cup double. He ended the season with 73 goals for club and country, while also scoring six times as England reached the World Cup semi-finals.
“Wow, wow, wow!” Kane said on receiving the award. “I am almost speechless. Being here in London has made it extra special.” He thanked the voters and praised the quality of the nominees, describing the occasion as a testament to determination and hard work.
Kane overcame strong competition from Kylian Mbappé, who set World Cup scoring records, and Lamine Yamal, who helped Spain win the World Cup. Voters instead rewarded Kane’s sustained excellence, leadership and extraordinary productivity throughout the season.
Spain midfielder Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d’Or for a third time after helping Barcelona complete a treble in 2025-26, alongside the Spanish Super Cup. She joined London City Lionesses in July after 14 years at Barcelona.
The award completes Kane’s long pursuit of the game’s highest individual recognition and adds to a legacy that already includes his status as England’s all-time leading scorer and record World Cup goalscorer.
