Kalyan: Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) commissioner Abhinav Goel conducted a boat survey in Kalyan creek on June 4 to inspect the preparedness of the Fire Brigade for potential flood-like situations during the monsoon.

Heavy unseasonal rains in May had caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the city. Against this backdrop, Goel took a hands-on review of the fire brigade's flood rescue arrangements. He sailed in a rubber dingy of the fire department and received a detailed briefing on the operational readiness of the emergency response teams.

The fire brigade had earlier submitted a comprehensive written report outlining their monsoon strategy. Chief Fire Officer Namdev Chaudhary had submitted the plan detailing how rescue operations would be conducted in flood-prone areas. Commissioner Goel evaluated the plans in action and also inspected the equipment and condition of the boats that would be used during emergencies.

A mock drill was conducted at Durgadi Ganesh Ghat to demonstrate the rescue operations. “Our main aim is to ensure a quick response time during emergencies. The faster we respond, the more lives we can save. This inspection was part of our efforts to check the actual readiness of boats and other emergency equipment,” Goel said.

The survey was attended by key civic officials including city engineer Anita Pardeshi, deputy commissioner Vandana Gulve, executive engineer Jagdish Kore, assistant commissioner Dhananjay Thorat, fire station officer Vinayak Lokhande, and Chaudhary.
