During the Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture on April 23 between
Sun Risers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians are scheduled to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
To honour the victims, players from both sides and the match officials will wear black armbands as well as observe a minute of silence before the match.
The gesture is part of a wider tribute organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has opted to forgo the presence of cheerleaders during the match as part of a more subdued approach.
The devastating incident has deeply affected people across the country, and the cricketing world has not remained silent. Cricketers Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill have expressed their grief and solidarity with the victims’ families through heartfelt messages on social media
This isn’t the first instance where the BCCI has taken steps to demonstrate solidarity in the wake of a national tragedy. In 2019, following the Pulwama terror attack, the board cancelled the IPL's opening ceremony that year and directed funds towards supporting those impacted by the incident.
