On Sunday, February 18th, to celebrate the 28th Pathotsav of the Shri Shrinathji temple at Haveli in Vashi, an extravagant 'Chhappan Bhog' ceremony, offering homage to the deity Govardhannathaji, was held. The event witnessed a massive turnout, with nearly fifty thousand devotees from across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region flocking to the Haveli temple located at sector 29 Vashi, to seek the auspicious Darshan of the Lord.
This year, the temple underwent a grand makeover, with its decorated interior adding an enhanced look to the revered occasion. 'Haveli Matunga' and 'Haveli Sion' also participated in the ceremony, with the respective deities from those centers, Lord MadanMohanji from Haveli Sion and Lord Govardhannathaji from Haveli Matunga, drawing a significant number of devotees.
While the actual Pathotsav or foundation day of Lord Govardhannathji will be observed by the devotees on February 22nd, the Vaishnava Seva Samaj of the Pushtimarg sect organized the 28th foundation day program on the tithi, Mah-sudh teras, according to the Hindu calendar. Various Monarathas or fulfillment of wishes, such as darshan in chandi ke bangla, darshan in kanch ke bangla, kundwara manoratha, and rajbhog ke darshan, were celebrated during the ten-day period leading up to the occasion.
During the ceremony, the Lords were offered fifty-six items of Bhog-prasad, popularly called Chhappan Bhog. The response from devotees was overwhelming, with people from all over the city and its outskirts, including faraway places like Vasai, Virar, Dombivli, and Kalyan, turning up to witness the grand offering. The display was enormous, with ingredients sourced from Mathura and Gujarat, ensuring freshness and purity. One thousand kilograms each of Desi ghee and sugar, along with an equal amount of mawa, khoya, and dry fruits, were used to prepare fifty-six kinds of sweets. Approximately fourteen thousand devotees had mahaprasad at the end of the celebration.
