Garbage collection crisis sparks outrage in Dombivli MIDC

Dombivli: Residents of Dombivli’s MIDC residential area are grappling with a worsening garbage collection crisis, as waste collection vehicles have failed to arrive regularly for days. In some areas, trucks have skipped pickups for two to three consecutive days, leaving residents frustrated and venting on social media with no resolution in sight.

A private contractor, tasked with garbage collection based on the Chennai model, is struggling due to a shortage of trucks and staff. Reports indicate that wet and dry waste are being mixed, further compounding the issue. With no consistent collection, desperate residents have resorted to dumping garbage bags on roadsides, creating unsanitary conditions with piling tree leaves and waste, raising serious health concerns.

Concerned citizens have lodged complaints with the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC). Ramdas Kokre, Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management, has promised action, while Mukund Vaidya, a senior citizen and lawyer from Milapanagar, emailed KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goyal to address the crisis. Residents are threatening to escalate complaints to the Prime Minister’s Office if the situation persists.

Local political leaders have shown little interest in resolving the issue, and frequent disruptions in electricity and water supply during Diwali have added to the frustration. Social activist Raju Nalawade warned of a strong protest if immediate action is not taken to restore regular waste collection and address the growing public health threat.
