Election Commission imposes ban on opinion and exit polls during Maharashtra elections

With the Lok Sabha Election 2024 on the horizon, the Election Commission of India has issued directives prohibiting the dissemination of election predictions, encompassing both opinion and exit polls, during the election period.

The electoral process in Maharashtra will unfold over five phases, prompting the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct from March 16, 2024. The ban on exit polls will be enforced in the state from 7 am on April 19 to 6:30 pm on June 1, 2024. Additionally, a notification from the Election Commission stipulates a prohibition on the publication or broadcast of the results of opinion polls or other polling surveys within 48 hours before the conclusion of polling in each phase.
