Dombivli: A 17-year-old from Khambalpada in Dombivali East ended her life angry with her parents after they objected to her relationship with her maternal cousin.

The deceased was in a relationship with her maternal uncle's son and insisted on marrying him, Tilaknagar police, senior police inspector Vijay Kumar Kadam of Tilaknagar police station said.

However, the family had objected to the relationship as the girl was a minor and the boy was unemployed. Despite repeated counselling by her parents, the minor refused to back down, leading to constant tension in the house, police said.

The girl was alone at home when she resorted to the extreme measure. The deceased’s mother discovered the girl hanging from the ceiling. The minor was rushed to Shastri Nagar Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

An accidental death report has been registered, Kadam added.
