Mira-Bhayandar: Congress leader and former MLC Muzaffar Husain has levelled serious allegations of large-scale manipulation in the draft voters’ list released by the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC). Accusing the ruling BJP and the civic administration of acting “in collusion,” Husain announced that he will approach the Bombay High Court to seek corrective action.
A Congress delegation led by Husain met Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhabinod Sharma and submitted formal objections, claiming “serious discrepancies” in the newly published list. Husain said that nearly 90,000 new names had been added within just five to six months since the Lok Sabha polls, yet repeated complaints to the Election Commission failed to prompt any review.
He further alleged that several BJP supporters from the Ovala-Majiwada Assembly constituency were wrongly registered as voters in Mira-Bhayandar and had cast their ballots there. The draft list, he said, was riddled with errors—duplicate entries, missing photographs, names of deceased voters, and names of residents who had shifted out but were still included. He added that hundreds of voters were inexplicably transferred from their original wards to unrelated ones.
Congress, he said, is now filing ward-wise objections across all 24 wards, citing widespread inaccuracies. Husain also pointed out that while the administration claimed to have deleted 4,915 names after the Assembly elections, it has not revealed which names were removed. Officials from Ovala-Majiwada, meanwhile, reportedly admitted lacking software to detect duplicate registrations.
Husain reiterated his demand for a fully revised, error-free list and warned that the party would seek judicial intervention if necessary to safeguard electoral integrity.
