The eco-friendly transportation by ST promises sustainable future
In a significant step towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated 5150 air-conditioned electric buses. The ceremony took place at an event attended by key dignitaries, including MLA Pratap Sarnaik, former MLA Ravindra Phatak, Principal Secretary of Transport Department Parag Jain-Nainotia, and Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (ST) Dr. Madhav Kusekar.
Speaking during the occasion, the Chief Minister highlighted the crucial role played by the State Transport (ST) buses, describing them as the lifeline of the state. He emphasized the enduring bond between the ST drivers and the villagers, acknowledging the significant contribution of ST to the development of rural areas.
Aiming to enhance the passenger experience, ST Corporation has added 5150 fully air-conditioned electric buses to its fleet. These 34-seater electric buses will ply on the Borivali-Thane-Nashik route, offering comfort at the same fare as the existing Shivshahi buses. Notably, the buses will feature a 50 percent discount for women, 50 percent for senior citizens aged between 65 to 75 years, and 100 percent discount for Amrit senior citizens.
To support the initiative, the ST Corporation is constructing e-bus charging stations at more than 173 bus stations across the state. Chief Minister Shinde expressed the government's commitment to providing quality facilities, ensuring good service, and adopting environmentally friendly practices. He urged ST officers and employees to make concerted efforts towards profitability and directed that ST should be treated with care.
In alignment with the central government's policy to fund municipal corporations for purchasing electric vehicles, Chief Minister Shinde acknowledged the need for air conditioning services in rural areas and affirmed the government's commitment to providing excellent facilities for the common man.
The Chief Minister further announced a fund of Rs. 600 crore for the beautification of STs, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness competitions, quality restrooms and good canteen services.
