Vashi: City welcomed the Hindu New Year with enthusiasm and cultural pride as citizens gathered in large numbers at Sanpada’s Gunina Ground to celebrate Gudi Padwa. The Sonkhar–Palm Beach area came alive with tradition, music, and artistic expression, with this year’s celebrations uniquely centered around the theme of ‘Joint Family’ (Sanyukta Kutumb).
The event began with the ceremonial hoisting of the Gudi, accompanied by Vedic chants, performed by Deputy Mayor Dashrath Bhagat and his spouse. This was followed by a soulful collective rendition of ‘Pasaydan,’ where attendees offered prayers for peace, unity, and global harmony.
The festive spirit intensified as Dhol-Tasha groups energized the crowd with powerful rhythmic beats. A women’s troupe performed a graceful Lezim dance, adding elegance to the celebrations. One of the standout attractions was the demonstration of Shivkalin Mardani Khel, a traditional martial art form that showcased strength, agility, and historical valor. A large and intricately designed Rangoli at the venue further highlighted India’s rich artistic heritage.
A major highlight of the event was the ‘Traditional Ramp Walk,’ which saw participation from people of all age groups. From toddlers to senior citizens, participants dressed in authentic Maharashtrian attire confidently walked the ramp. Children dressed as saints and iconic historical figures charmed the audience, receiving loud applause. Outstanding participants were recognized with prizes, mementos, and gift vouchers to encourage cultural participation.
Addressing the gathering, Dashrath Bhagat said, “In an era of nuclear families, reviving the concept of a joint family is essential. India’s philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ inspires unity and global peace.”
The event was organized under the leadership of Nishant Bhagat, Priti Bhagat, and Sandeep Bhagat, with active support from local leaders and community groups, making it a memorable and meaningful celebration.
