Responding to the persistent demand from Murbi Gaon residents to incorporate their village's identity into the Metro station's name, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has officially announced the rechristening of the Central Park Metro Station. The station will now be known as the Central Park Murbi Village Metro Station.
The inauguration of the 'Navi Mumbai Metro' evoked both jubilation and dissent among locals. Chief among the contentions was the insistence on renaming the Central Park Metro Station to 'Murbi Gaon Metro Station,' a demand that garnered significant support, leading to local protests. Yielding to mounting pressure and the voices of local leaders and residents, CIDCO took the decision to modify the station's name to Central Park Murbi Village Metro Station.
Previously, Murbi village residents expressed frustration over CIDCO's delayed response, advocating for a name aligned with the tradition of naming stations after their respective villages. In a bid to address these concerns, CIDCO officials deliberated on the matter and opted to merge the names, proposing 'Central Park Murbi Village Metro Station' as the amended nomenclature for the station.
The movement gathered momentum with unwavering support from the Gramstha Mandal of Murbi, initiating a compelling one-day hunger strike. At the forefront of this movement was Santosh Thakur, a social worker and recipient of the prestigious 'Raigad Bhushan,' who spearheaded the initiation of road construction at Khadikaran in the Murbi Adivasi Vadi.
Krishna Khadgi, an active protestor, emphasized the importance of naming stations in accordance with local identities, stating, "While Central Park remains a significant landmark, acknowledging and honoring the village's identity through the station's name holds equal importance."
