A new bridge connecting Ghansoli to Airoli will soon become accessible to residents of Navi Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in the city's infrastructure expansion. This success comes as a result of the persistent efforts of Member of Parliament Rajan Vichare, who supported the completion of this crucial project.
The journey towards this achievement traces back to 2009 when CIDCO initiated road construction work extending up to Ghansoli.
Undeterred by the challenges, the NMMC proposed a Rs. 800 crore project to erect a 1.95 km cable bridge, thereby bridging the gap between Ghansoli and Airoli. Upon learning of the project's status, MP Rajan Vichare engaged with the then CIDCO Managing Director Lokesh Chandra, urging CIDCO's financial support to expedite the completion of the bridge.
Following deliberations, CIDCO committed to covering 50% of the project costs, with the remaining funds allocated by the Municipal Corporation. Securing approval for Rs. 493 crores, NMMC laid out plans for constructing a 1.1 km bridge and a 700-meter interchange at Katai Marg, garnering essential environmental clearances from authorities like CRZ and MCZMA.
After obtaining court permission on March 14, 2024, the project is poised to move forward swiftly. The tender process has been concluded, paving the way for the commencement of construction following the bhoomi pujan ceremony.
“This new route holds immense promise for Navi Mumbaikars, offering a respite from the congestion caused by heavy vehicular traffic within the city limits. With an anticipated completion timeline of three years, the project is set to enhance connectivity and alleviate traffic pressures, highlighting the commitment towards bolstering infrastructure for the city's burgeoning population”, said MP Vichare.
