Muskan Sheikh, a young athlete from Belapur, has made waves in the powerlifting community by winning a gold medal in a sport often viewed as a male-dominated arena. Competing in the sub-junior category at the state-level powerlifting competition held in Wadala, Mumbai, Muskan showcased her strength by lifting an impressive 60 kg.

Muskan attributes her success to the challenges she has faced. "My circumstances have fueled my determination to excel," she shared. Despite coming from a difficult background, she has persevered and is now a proud representative of her community.

The competition was organized by the Maharashtra State Sub Junior, Junior, Master Men and Women Powerlifting Association, and Muskan's family and coaches expressed their pride in her outstanding performance.

Her journey to this achievement has not been easy. Muskan, who completed her education up to the 12th grade at Vidya Prasarak School and College in Belapur, had to put her studies on hold to fund her training. Balancing work and sport is a struggle for many, but Muskan managed to excel in both. After completing her schooling, she began working private jobs while diligently training in powerlifting every day.

Under the guidance of her coach, Harshad Madhukar Bhoir, Muskan began her powerlifting career in 2020 at just 18 years old. Despite initial criticism and facing opposition, particularly due to her gender and background as a member of the Muslim community, she remained focused on her goals. "I faced doubts from people, even at home," Muskan admitted, "but the unwavering support from my mother and my coach kept me going."
