Navi Mumbai braces for MMRDA's fitness fiesta

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is set to host a marathon on the recently inaugurated Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Setu (MTHL) on Sunday, February 18, in the morning hours. Consequently, access for all vehicles on the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Setu will be suspended from 11 p.m. on February 17 until 1 p.m. on February 18. The Navi Mumbai Police Traffic Department has issued an official notification regarding the temporary closure and has advised commuters to seek alternative routes.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the marathon, the MMRDA has ordered the closure of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Setu sea link starting from 11 p.m. on February 17 until 1 p.m. on February 18. The closure aims to prevent any disruptions during the marathon scheduled from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m. on February 18. Additionally, Navi Mumbai Police has issued traffic control directives in this regard.

During the closure period, vehicles traveling from Uran through Atal Setu have been rerouted via Gavan Phata and Uran Phata to reach their destinations via Vashi. Similarly, vehicles traveling from Pune to Atal Setu via Mumbai have been redirected through the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway to Belapur, Vashi Marg, and onwards. Vehicles from Konkan and Panvel, as well as light vehicles bound for Mumbai from JNPT, have also been instructed to follow alternative routes via Gavan Phata and Vashi.

Exceptions to the traffic control measures include police vehicles, fire brigade, ambulances, essential service vehicles, and vehicles participating in the marathon.
