The Panvel Forest Department has deployed personnel to ensure safety at the Pandavkada waterfall area in Kharghar. The Kharghar police have also erected signs prohibiting access to dangerous tourist spots around the waterfall and along the adjacent roads.
The issue of monsoon tourism safety gained prominence following the drowning of five family members, including two children, in a stream near Bhushi Dam in Pune's Lonavla area. This incident was raised during the state legislature session, prompting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to instruct all District Collectors to review and secure hazardous tourist locations within their jurisdictions. His directives included measures to prevent accidents, such as installing notice boards and deploying lifeguards at high-risk tourist sites.
Pandavkada waterfall, a popular monsoon destination for tourists from Navi Mumbai and Panvel, has seen over thirty tourists swept away in the past 15 years. In light of the Chief Minister's instructions, Raigad district officials have ordered the deployment of two forest department personnel to monitor the area and enhance safety measures. Additionally, the Kharghar police have designated the waterfall and surrounding lake area as prohibited zones, placing prohibition order boards to deter visitors.
D.S. Sonawane, Forest Examining Officer of the Panvel Forest Department, confirmed the deployment: "Two forest department personnel have been deployed to prevent accidents in the Pandavkada waterfall area."
