Apta Railway Station, renowned for its picturesque setting and the backdrop to numerous super hit films, finds itself facing a dearth of essential facilities. The advisory committee members, after a thorough inspection, expressed regret over the inconveniences faced by passengers and pledged to pursue the provision of necessary amenities.
Nestled between mountains and a river, Apta Railway Station holds strategic importance on the Konkan and Mumbai route. Despite gaining fame as a preferred filming location post-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the station has not kept pace with the increasing number of visitors. It has featured in blockbuster films like Coolie, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Rang De Basanti, Khaki, Baaghi, and various commercials.
The recent expansion saw the construction of additional platforms and a connecting bridge, transforming Apta into an advanced station. However, despite the aesthetic improvements, both passengers and staff encounter inconveniences. The drinking water tap is non-functional, mirroring the state of the station's toilets. Limited seating, with only four benches on the platform, and inadequate lighting, especially at the platform ends, contribute to passenger discomfort.
Observations from the advisory committee, consisting of Haresh Sathe, Ashok Malusare, and Prakash Shedge, revealed the absence of ticket staff. The food stall, positioned prominently, remains permanently closed, leading to unnecessary blockage of platform space. Although certain facilities like regular cleaning, wheelchair accessibility, stretchers, and fire protection for the disabled are available, the overall lack of amenities raises concerns.
Passengers, emphasizing the need for fundamental facilities, demand for an elevation in the station's importance. Committee members, aligned with this sentiment, pledged to communicate the station's needs in written form to the railway administration. The concerted effort aims to transform Apta Railway Station into a well-equipped and passenger-friendly hub, ensuring a seamless travel experience for all.
