Kalyan: Strong opposition has emerged against the cluster development scheme affecting 27 villages under the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC). On March 17, residents, along with the 27 Village All-Party Rights Protection Struggle Committee, staged a protest at the KDMC headquarters, expressing their anger over the government’s decision.

During the agitation, protesters symbolically burned copies of the circular and tore documents to register their dissent. They claimed that major projects such as the cluster scheme, growth centre, and proposed bullet train business hub are adversely impacting local residents and landowners.

Villagers argued that despite being included in development plans, basic amenities like roads, water supply, and infrastructure remain inadequate. They alleged that authorities are imposing projects without addressing long-standing civic issues. Protesters clearly stated,  “If there is no development and no facilities in the 27 villages, then property tax will not be accepted.”

A delegation of protestors met KDMC Additional Commissioner Yogesh Godse to present their demands. The group, led by Struggle Committee President Sumit Vaze and Vice-President Satyawan Mhatre, outlined concerns regarding displacement, lack of infrastructure, and the burden of large-scale projects.

After hearing the grievances, the Additional Commissioner assured that the issue would be addressed through dialogue. He confirmed that a joint meeting involving the KDMC Mayor, Municipal Commissioner, public representatives of the 27 villages, and members of the Struggle Committee will be convened soon.

Officials stated, “This meeting will focus on resolving technical and local concerns, with an aim to find a balanced and acceptable solution for all stakeholders.”
