Vishu 2025: Vishu is an important Hindu spring festival celebrated mainly in Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu.

According to Indian astrology, the festival marks Sun's transition into Mesha rashi or the zodiac of Aries.

The festival coincides with the spring equinox, when day and night are of equal length.

This year, the important festival of Vishu will be celebrated on Monday, April 14. The auspicious time for observing Vishu Kani is at 03:30 AM.

Celebrations revolve around three key elements: Vishu Kani (the auspicious sight), Vishu Kaineettam (the tradition of gifting money), and Vishuphalam (astrological predictions for the year).

Vishu Kani: Family members wake up and have darshan of the Vishu Kani for good luck and prosperity. Vishu Kani, consisting of items like rice, fruits, flowers, coins, mirror, and a lamp (Nilavilakku) in a brass vessel (Uruli), is arranged the night before to have darshan first thing in the morning.

Vishu Paddakam: Bursting of firecrackers follows as part of the celebrations.

Vishu Kaineettam: The patriarchs and elders gift money or tokens of prosperity as blessings to younger family members.

Vishu Sadhya: A grand vegetarian feast served on plantain leaves featuring 20–30 dishes. Aviyal, Thoran, Kootukari, Payasam or Prathaman are staple.
