In a significant achievement, the Vashi police have successfully apprehended three individuals belonging to an inter-state gang involved in breaking car windows and stealing laptops. The arrested suspects, identified as Senithil Durairjan Kumar R.D (48), Murthy Ramasamy Chinnappan (30), and Siva Viswanathan (47), were traced to Tirchi in Tamil Nadu. The gang's criminal activities spanned across Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, and other areas.

The breakthrough came after an incident on January 10, where the trio smashed car windows in front of the Science Society in Vashi Sector-17, making off with two Apple laptops. The Vashi police, led by Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chandekar and Police Inspector Sanjay Nale, initiated a comprehensive search operation, utilizing CCTV footage and cross-referencing police station records in Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Mumbai.

A crucial turning point occurred when one of the stolen laptops, connected to its owner's iPhone, provided frequent location updates. This enabled the police to track the thieves to the CSMT premises. Acting swiftly, the Vashi police, with the assistance of local railway police, apprehended the suspects attempting to flee to their native village by train.

Upon inspecting the suspects' bags, the police uncovered 10 stolen laptops from various locations, leading to their immediate seizure and subsequent arrests. Further investigation revealed that the gang had engaged in a spree of thefts across Maharashtra over a 20-day period, breaking car windows to steal laptops from Vashi, Navghar, Mulund, CBD, Nashik, Pune, and Pandharpur. The extent of their criminal activities suggests the potential for more nationwide crimes.

Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chandekar stressed the importance of a thorough investigation, suspecting the gang's involvement in numerous crimes beyond Maharashtra. The probe also exposed the gang's practice of disposing of stolen laptops in Tamil Nadu. The successful operation signifies a crucial step in curbing the activities of this inter-state criminal gang.
