Ulhasnagar: In a shocking incident, a 65-year-old Ulhasnagar resident, who was declared dead by doctors, woke up as the bereaved members of his family prepared for the funeral.
The man identified as Abhiman Tayde was ailing for the past few weeks. However, when he suddenly fell unconscious on June 13, his son took him to Shivneri Hospital in Ulhasnagar in an auto rickshaw.
Tayde was examined by Dr Asha Ahuja in the autorickshaw itself and declared the 65-year-old on arrival. The hospital immediately issued a death certificate and the family brought the body home to prepare for the last rites.
The family was in for a shock when they spotted Tayde's chest heaving and him breathing. The family rushed Tayde to a nearby hospital, where doctors immediately started treatment. Tayde soon regained consciousness, much to the relief of his family.
When contacted, Dr Ahuja admitted her mistake. "I couldn't find the pulse and I couldn't hear the heartbeat,” she said, adding there was a lot of ambient noise which prevented her from hearing the faint heartbeat. Dr Ahuja expressed regret at the incident.
