In a stringent move aimed at easing traffic congestion and addressing citizen complaints, the Turbhe Traffic Branch and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) took decisive action against 22 vehicles and several illegal garage operators and spare parts vendors near Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth in Nerul.
The crackdown occurred as a response to ongoing issues caused by vehicles parked haphazardly along the road, obstructing traffic flow and posing hazards to drivers. The area, known for its numerous garage shops and vendors selling vehicle accessories, witnessed a constant influx of customers parking their vehicles on the road, severely restricting passage for other commuters.
This mounting problem led to a surge in traffic snarls, escalating minor accidents, and garnered multiple grievances from local residents. Responding to these concerns, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirupati Kakade, instructed strict measures against these violations.
Collaborating with Senior Police Inspector Srikant Dharne from Turbhe Traffic Branch and Nerul Ward Officer Prabodhan Mavde of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Sub-Inspector of Police Mahadeshwar, along with law enforcement officials, conducted a targeted operation on Tuesday. This operation targeted the garages and spare parts vendors in front of Dr. D.Y. Patil University, resulting in 22 illegally parked vehicles being booked under Section 122 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1985. Additionally, one vehicle was towed by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and impounded at their dumping yard for illegal parking.
Senior Police Inspector Srikant Dharne issued a stern warning, affirming that similar action will continue against any traders engaging in illegal business practices that disrupt traffic flow. He urged garage operators and spare parts vendors to conduct their businesses in compliance with regulations to ensure the convenience and safety of citizens.
This concerted effort by the authorities serves as a clear message to those causing traffic obstructions and illegal business practices in the area, signalling a zero-tolerance approach toward such infringements for the welfare of the community.
