top-news

Navi Mumbai: The city traffic police have imposed a two-day ban on heavy and goods vehicles on February 28 and March 1 to facilitate the 350th martyrdom anniversary celebrations of Guru Tegh Bahadur, revered as “Hind Di Chadar.” The restrictions will be enforced across the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate limits.

The main event will be held in Kharghar, where over 1.5 million devotees are expected to gather. Prominent dignitaries, including Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, along with the state Chief Minister and other senior officials, are scheduled to attend the two-day congregation.

In view of the anticipated crowd and VVIP movement, the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have implemented extensive security and traffic arrangements. Heavy and goods-carrying vehicles will not be allowed to enter, pass through, or park within city limits from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm on both days. The order has been issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakade under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Essential services such as police, fire brigade, ambulances, government vehicles, authorised event vehicles, passenger buses, and emergency services are exempt.

To manage the surge in commuters, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport Corporation (NMMT) will operate special buses for the event. Consequently, regular services on some routes may be reduced or delayed, and passengers could face longer waiting times. Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate, use alternative routes where possible, and plan their travel in advance to ensure smooth traffic and transport management during the celebrations.
