TMC announces 50 percent discount for women and free travel for senior citizens

In a move aimed at enhancing accessibility and inclusivity in transportation services, Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a series of welfare schemes slated to launch from March 13, 2024.
Commissioner Abhijit Bangar announced significant provisions in the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, which includes 100 percent free travel for citizens aged 60 and above, along with a 50 percent discount on tickets for women passengers. Moreover, seats on the left side of the bus will be exclusively reserved for women, ensuring their safety and comfort during transit.
The inauguration ceremony for these transformative initiatives is scheduled to take place at 10:00 am tomorrow, at Satish Pool near Thane Railway Station. The event will be presided over by MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, accompanied by esteemed dignitaries including Shiv Sena Thane district chief and former mayor Naresh Mhaske, Meenakshi Shinde, transport chairman Vilas Joshi, transport manager Bhalchandra Behere, and members of the transport committee, along with former corporators.
Under the banner of "Safe Women, Empowered Women," these schemes highlight the commitment of the municipal corporation towards fostering a safer and more inclusive environment for all citizens. Commissioner Abhijit Bangar has urged citizens to capitalize on the benefits offered, emphasizing the importance of availing the 100 percent free travel for senior citizens and the 50 percent discount scheme for women, as well as the dedicated seating arrangements for their convenience.
“The launch of these welfare schemes represents a significant step forward in the efforts to prioritize the welfare and empowerment of its residents, setting a precedent for inclusive governance and progressive urban development”, said Bangar.
