Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) has extended the deadline for finalising voter lists in 29 municipal corporations across the state. The revised schedule, issued on November 26, provides additional time for voter verification and corrections to ensure accuracy in the electoral rolls.
This extension adds 10 more days to the process, aimed at addressing errors in the draft voter lists, particularly in Mumbai. The city currently has around 1.03 crore registered voters, with over 11 lakh duplicate entries, including 4.3 lakh multiple registrations. Both the SEC and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have acknowledged these discrepancies.
Despite the extension, the SEC has assured that the BMC elections will still be held before January 31, 2026, as per the Supreme Court’s deadline. The BMC elections were delayed due to a pending petition concerning OBC reservations.
The original timeline, set between November 13 and December 12, 2025, has been extended to allow for processing objections and publishing the final lists. Key revised dates include:
- Submission of objections and corrections: Extended from November 27 to December 3, 2025
- Processing objections and publishing final voter lists: Extended from December 5 to December 10, 2025
- Publishing voter lists at polling stations: Extended from December 8 to December 15, 2025
- Final publication of voter lists at polling stations: Extended from December 12 to December 22, 2025
