Kharghar: At a time when healthcare costs are spiraling beyond the reach of millions, the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centre for Child Heart Care in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, has emerged as a life-saving destination for children suffering from Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) all completely free of cost.
Since its inception in May 2019, the hospital has performed over 4,500 pediatric heart surgeries and interventions, bringing hope and healing to families who could otherwise never afford such treatment. With no billing counter on its premises, the hospital truly embodies its philosophy of "Love All, Serve All.
The hospital has performed surgeries on infants as young as 7 days old, and even conducted a catheterisation procedure on a 36-hour-old newborn that reflects its commitment to cutting-edge pediatric cardiac care.
In addition to surgeries, the hospital runs free cardiology OPDs, managing over 15,000 cases annually, and has screened more than 25,000 children in communities for CHD. It has also extended its care to pregnant women from economically weaker sections by offering completely free antenatal clinics and consultations. Since February 2021, over 9,000 women have benefited from these services.
Located in Sector 38, Kharghar, the centre also hosts the Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Skill Institute, which empowers young women from tribal, orphanage, and rescue home backgrounds to become nurse assistants. The institute provides free residential training, including food, hostel accommodation, stipends, and job placements creating not just caregivers, but changemakers.
“Our goal is to holistically address the national burden of congenital heart disease,” said Dr C.S. Srinivas, Director of Academics and Coordinator of Medical Services.
“We aim to provide early screening in the community, world-class paediatric heart surgeries, training of healthcare professionals, and advanced genomic research to identify the causes of CHD”, he added.
