Residents of Manpada, Manorama Nagar, and Azad Nagar have raised strong objections to the Thane Municipal Corporation’s cluster development plan and the new development proposal for the area. Hundreds of citizens, under the banner of the Ekta Sangh Village Rescue Action Committee, staged a protest outside the municipal cluster office, opposing the recent meeting held by the civic body regarding the plans.
The large-scale cluster development initiative, aimed at transforming Thane into a well-planned city, has been progressing in phases. The first phase began on June 5, 2023, in Kisannagar, and subsequent work has expanded to Wagle Estate and the Ghodbunder Road area. As part of the initiative, a meeting was held to brief residents of Manpada, Manorama Nagar, and Azad Nagar about the redevelopment plans, with Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode outlining the scheme’s details and its potential benefits.
However, residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the terms and conditions of the cluster project, voicing concerns that the scheme primarily serves the interests of builders rather than the community. The protesters raised 63 pointed questions about the plan, leaving the municipal administration struggling to provide satisfactory answers.
