In a shocking turn of events, the NRI police have arrested Poonam Singh (34), the wife of the deceased builder Manoj Kumar Singh, and her lover, Raju alias Shamsul Abuhuraira Khan (22), for their alleged involvement in Manoj Kumar's murder. The couple conspired to execute the crime with the intention of seizing Manoj Kumar's property.

The victim, Manoj Kumar Singh, residing in the Ulwe area and operating an office named Aman Developers in Seawoods Sector-44, was found dead in his office last Saturday. He was attacked by an unknown assailant with a heavy object on Friday midnight. The NRI police, upon discovering the crime, promptly launched an investigation and registered a case of murder against the unidentified perpetrator.

Given the security measures in Manoj Kumar's office, it was evident that the assailant had familiarity with the victim. The police focused their attention on acquaintances and employees, leading them to Raju alias Shamsul Khan, who had been working closely with Manoj Kumar.

Upon interrogation, Raju confessed to having a relationship with Poonam Singh, Manoj Kumar's wife. The two had allegedly conspired to eliminate Manoj Kumar, fearing the potential confiscation of his property due to his involvement in fraud cases that led to his imprisonment in 2022.

Manoj Kumar Singh had previously deceived numerous individuals of substantial sums under the guise of selling flats, resulting in the registration of six fraud cases against him. Poonam Singh, apprehensive about the court seizing their assets, collaborated with Raju to execute the murder and secure ownership of Manoj Kumar's property.

The investigation further revealed that Poonam Singh falsely accused an unknown assailant in her initial report to the police, diverting their attention from her involvement. Additionally, both Poonam and Raju took steps to destroy the evidence captured by the office's CCTV cameras to conceal their crime.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Circle-1, Vivek Pansare, stated, "The deceased businessman, Manoj Kumar Singh, had defrauded numerous individuals of substantial amounts, leading to multiple fraud cases against him. Poonam, fearing the court's confiscation of their property, orchestrated this murder with the assistance of employees in Manoj Kumar Singh's office”.

The court has remanded both Poonam Singh and Raju alias Shamsul Khan to police custody until January 18, as the investigation continues to unfold the intricate details of this shocking crime.
