top-news

The picturesque hill station of Saputara, is Gujarat's only hill station, nestled in the Dang district of South Gujarat. Literally meaning the ‘Abode of Serpents’ in Gujarati, the place derives its name from the winding Sarpanganga river resembling a serpent.

Situated at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level, Saputara has been developed as a planned hill resort. Relatively lesser-known hill station in the Western Ghats, Saputara is replete with the best of nature including flourishing hills, gardens, parks, waterfalls and lakes.

The Maharashtra state line is just four km away from the town. Surat, 156km away, and Nashik at 79km are the cities closest to Saputara.

Saputara is situated on a plateau and is the second highest of the Sahyadari range. Being a hill station, the temperature does not exceed 28 degrees Celsius even during summer. The thick forest around Saputara is dotted with tribal villages and their unique dances are of great interest.

Visitors to Saputara can explore a variety of attractions such as the tranquil Saputara Lake, Vansda National Park and the Hathgadh Fort. Scenic viewpoints like Sunrise Point and Sunset Point offer breathtaking panoramas of the valley and the river. The region's rich biodiversity can be experienced at places like Purna Sanctuary, Gira Falls and Echo Point. For those culturally inclined, the local Adivasi tribes offer a sneak peek into their vibrant culture.

The hill resort of Saputara is refreshing throughout the year with its cool weather. Saputara is an ideal getaway for the sun-scorched souls of the plains. The monsoon rains add to the magic of Saputara. While it is worth visiting any time of the year, the best time is from mid-March to mid-November.
