In a proactive effort to combat drug abuse among youth, Ryan International School, Sanpada, recently organised an Anti-Narcotics Awareness Workshop. The event aimed to educate students about the dangers of drug addiction and its far-reaching effects on individuals, families, and society, as part of the institute's pioneering efforts to promote awareness and foster a supportive environment for its students.
The workshop featured presentations by Anti-Narcotics officials, who provided valuable insights into various narcotic substances and the ways young people can inadvertently become involved with drugs. The officials highlighted the physical, psychological, and social repercussions of substance abuse, emphasising that addiction not only jeopardises personal health but also damages relationships, careers, and future opportunities.
One of the key topics discussed was the legal ramifications of drug possession and trafficking, with officials outlining the stringent laws in India aimed at curbing narcotics-related offences. Through engaging real-life examples and interactive discussions, students were encouraged to make informed, responsible choices and resist harmful influences. This initiative reflects Ryan International School's dedication to promoting awareness and fostering a supportive environment for its students.
Muriel Fernandes, Principal of the reputed Navi Mumbai-based CBSE school, said, “The workshop's primary goal was to empower students with the knowledge and confidence to say ‘No’ to drugs. Additionally, it highlighted the importance of fostering a healthy lifestyle, nurturing positive friendships, and seeking support from trusted adults, such as parents, teachers, or counsellors, when faced with challenging situations.”
Expressing her heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the school management to the Anti-Narcotics officials for their invaluable guidance and commitment to safeguarding youth from the perils of drug abuse, she added, “Feedback from students indicated that the session was both informative and engaging, reinforcing the message that a drug-free life is crucial for maintaining a healthy mind, body, and community.”
