The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has officially announced the much-anticipated return of the T20 Mumbai League for its exhilarating Season 4, alongside the launch of the inaugural T20 Mumbai Women’s League. This dual announcement marks a significant milestone in the promotion of cricket in Mumbai, particularly for women’s sports.
The trophies for both leagues, scheduled to be contested from the first week of June 2026, were unveiled at a glamorous event in Mumbai attended by cricketing icons such as CA President Ajinkya Naik, former MCA President and Cabinet Minister Ashish Shelar, Rajdip Gupta, Chairman of the League Governing Council, and women’s cricket legend Diana Edulji, among other dignitaries and team operators.
Former Indian T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season: “I’m thrilled to see how Mumbai cricket is evolving, not just through the IPL but also via the T20 Mumbai League, which has been instrumental in nurturing young talent. Many players who showcased their skills here have progressed to the IPL and the national team. It’s a fantastic platform, and I’m excited to see it grow, especially with the addition of three women’s teams this year.”
Highlighting the importance of the T20 Mumbai Women’s League, Mumbai and Indian pacer Sayali Satghare remarked: “Mumbai has always been a city that lives and breathes cricket. Establishing a dedicated platform for women is a monumental step. I thank the MCA for investing in the future of women’s cricket. This league will empower young girls to dream big and compete at a high level, inspiring them to represent Mumbai and India one day.”
As the city gears up for another thrilling cricket season, MCA President Ajinkya Naik emphasised the association’s commitment to fostering talent: “Mumbai’s cricketing legacy is built on a strong grassroots structure that encourages players to push their limits. The T20 Mumbai League embodies this philosophy, offering a professional stage for cricketers to showcase their skills. The launch of the Women’s League is a pivotal moment, as women’s cricket is rapidly gaining momentum, and we must create robust platforms for these talented players.”
Former MCA President Ashish Shelar congratulated the MCA team for their efforts, recalling the inception of the league in 2018: “I remember the day we envisioned a league to provide our young talent with a larger platform. The success of this initiative is evident, and I applaud Ajinkya and Rajdip for their leadership. The introduction of women’s teams is a significant achievement, and we will continue to support this initiative.”
Rajdip Gupta, Chairman of the League Governing Council, added: “The T20 Mumbai League has consistently highlighted the depth of talent in our city. With the introduction of the women’s competition, we are entering an exciting new phase. Our goal is to run a professional tournament that not only showcases high-quality cricket but also strengthens the pathway for emerging players.”
The inaugural T20 Mumbai Women’s League will feature three teams, operated by PRS Infraprojects LLP, Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd, and World Star Sporting Private Limited. Meanwhile, Season 4 of the men’s league will continue to showcase eight franchises representing various regions of Mumbai, including last edition’s winners MSC Maratha Royals, two-time finalists SoBo Mumbai Falcons, ARCS Andheri, Bandra Blasters, and Eagle Thane Strikers, among others.
Since its inception in 2018, the T20 Mumbai League has become one of India’s most competitive domestic T20 tournaments, held across two venues in the previous edition. It serves as a vital platform for emerging players. Several cricketers, including Shivam Dube and Tushar Deshpande, along with youngsters Ayush Mhatre and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, have progressed from the league to represent Mumbai and India, as well as play in the Indian Premier League.
