Juinagar: A young man was robbed of Rs 31.73 lakh by a gang of six. The gang forcibly made the victim sit in their car while he was depositing money at an ATM centre and later set him free on the Palm Beach Road before fleeing.

The complainant, Mohammad Ramees Eidvalath (25), is a resident of Shahbaz Village in CBD Belapur and is engaged in the business of buying and selling second-hand cars. On May 31, at around 7:45 am, Mohammad Ramees had gone to the SBI ATM Centre in sector 11, Juinagar, to deposit money.

While he was depositing the cash into the machine, a person posing as a police officer approached him along with five accomplices. The gang forcibly pushed Ramees into their Maruti Ertiga car, assaulted him physically, hurled abuses, and threatened him.

They then forcibly took away Ramees’ bag, which contained Rs31.73 lakh in cash. After committing the robbery, the gang abandoned Ramees on Palm Beach Road and fled the scene.

Following the incident, Ramees informed his friend and subsequently lodged a complaint at the Sanpada Police Station. Sanpada Police registered a case of armed robbery and are actively investigating the matter to trace the culprits.
