Nerul: Police have registered a case into the attack on a 30-year-old woman by two assailants near Jewel of Mumbai in Nerul.

The victim identified as Priyanka Loke, a resident of sector 20 Nerul, was taking a walk with her daughter near Jewel of Navi Mumbai when she was attacked. The incident happened on May 11 near the Palm Beach Road walking track.

The assailants tried to stab Loke in the neck, which she resisted and as a result suffered knife wound to her forearm. One of the assailant has been identified as Shairul Shaikh alias Shera. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Loke is a prime witness in the murder of her husband Chirag Loke. Polie said Loke was attacked to stop her from testifying in court. Chirag was reportedly associated with the Arun Gawli gang and was murdered in February 2024. Priyanka had been actively pursuing the case in court to ensure justice for her late husband.

Loke received medical treatment and later filed a complaint with Nerul police.  A case of attempted murder has been registered against the two accused, and police have launched a manhunt to apprehend them.
