National Deworming Day campaign to target 4.24 lakh children in Thane District

The Thane district is gearing up for the implementation of the National Deworming Day campaign on February 13, 2024, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Central Government. The initiative will cover several key areas including Kalyan, Ambernath, Murbad, Bhiwandi, Shahapur talukas, as well as Badlapur and Ambernath municipalities in the rural areas of Thane.

Approximately 4,24,479 boys and girls aged between 1 to 19 years are slated to receive deworming tablets as part of this campaign. According to District Health Officer Dr. Gangadhar Parge, children aged 1 to 2 will be administered half a tablet, while those above 2 years old will be given one tablet to chew or dissolve the powder in water.

The primary objective of the campaign is to ensure the health and well-being of children, thereby enhancing their nutritional status, education, and overall quality of life. Dr. Parge emphasized the importance of administering deworming pills to safeguard children's health.

Under the guidance of District Surgeon Dr. Kailash Pawar and District Health Officer Dr. Gangadhar Parge, the campaign will reach a total of 2,149 government and private schools. In case any child misses the opportunity to receive the deworming tablets on February 13, a mop-up day has been scheduled for February 20, 2024, to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Additionally, Asha and Anganwadi workers will conduct door-to-door visits to distribute deworming pills to all remaining children during the campaign period. District Magistrate Ashok Shingare and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Rupali Satpute have urged parents to actively participate in the campaign by ensuring their children receive the deworming treatment, thereby contributing to their overall health and well-being.
