Nandu Natekar State Badminton Championship 2024 gets underway

Jidnyasa, Arpita register hard fought wins
The Women’s Singles first round matches of the Yonex Sunrise Shri Nandu Natekar Memorial Maharashtra State Senior Inter District (Team) and State Badminton Championship 2024, being played at the Goregaon Sports Club, sprawling indoor courts located at Malad West, Mumbai on Monday, witnessed strong resurgence by Pune District players Jidnyasa Chaudhari and Arpita Ardey in the face of stiff opposition by their erstwhile rivals.
Displaying tremendous fighting qualities Jidnyasa who lost the opening game 18-21 to talented Samprati Pathrabe from Raigad district, bounced back to win the next two to 21-9, and 21-10 to advance to the second round. On the other hand her compatriot Arpita also produced a solid fighting performance to overcome Sangli’s Shruti Shankargouda 21-17, 16-21, and 21-16 to keep her hopes alive.
Greater Mumbai’s Naishaa Bhatoye enjoyed an easy outing as she cruised past Thane’s Manasvi Vaidya in two straight games with a score line of 21-5, and 21-9. Mrunmayee Deshpande of Thane enjoyed a smooth sailing as she easily defeated Pranali Wadar of Sangli 21-12, 21-10 in her opening round match. Aarya Korgaonkar also of Thane District had to sweat it out before prevailing over Greater Mumbai’s Riya Vinherkar in two hard fought games 21-16, 21-12. Gargee Degvekar (Thane) too was stretched by one of the local favourite Shraddha Hakke (Mumbai Upanagar) before emerging victorious 21-14, 21-15.
The week long tourney, that is being conducted under the auspices of Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA) and Badminton Association for Mumbai Upanagar (BAMU), that was inaugurated by India’s leading Doubles player Chirag Shetty by lighting the traditional lamp in presence of various dignitaries including former seven-time Women’s National Singles champion Ami Ghia, Hon. Gen. Secretary Maharashtra Badminton Association Shrikant Vad and Joint Secretary & Secretary Indoor Sports, GSC Rakhee Sonigra Jain among others on Sunday morning
In the Women’s Team championship first round matches that were played on the inaugural day Greater Mumbai District kicked off their campaign on a winning note defeating Sambhaji Nagar District 2-0 Talented youngster Naishaa Bhatoye played a stellar role in Mumbai’s victory. She first defeated Sanskruti Satarkar 21-8, 21-7 in the singles match and later combined well with Hrissha Dubeyand beat the Sambhaji combination of Sanskruti Satarkar and Sonali Mirkhelkar 21-15, 21-15 to secure the victory.
