Thane and Mulund stations to witness progressive changes in 2024

In a recent development, Member of Parliament (MP) Rajan Vichare has announced significant progress in the long-awaited transformation of Thane railway station and the commencement of work on a new railway station between Thane and Mulund.

Following Vichare's advocacy for Thane's development during a parliamentary session, officials from the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) have engaged in discussions with the MP. A comprehensive inspection was organized, attended by high-ranking railway and municipal officials, including D of Central Railway G. M. Deepak Sharma and DGM Jain of RLDA. The meeting centred around addressing the needs of the eight lakh daily commuters at Thane railway station.

One crucial aspect discussed was the creation of alternative platforms to facilitate construction work. RLDA officials have confirmed that the ambitious project will kick off in the New Year, aiming to streamline operations and improve passenger experience.

As part of the broader plan, a new railway station is set to be constructed between Thane and Mulund. Municipal officials have reported that the development works in the new station's vicinity are well underway, with three routes being developed to connect the station effectively. Completion of 30% of the work is expected by December 2024, with an estimated total expenditure of INR 184 crores.

However, challenges have arisen in the acquisition of a four-acre land plot required for the new railway station, as it is yet to be transferred from the Health Department to the Railway Department. MP Rajan Vichare has sought intervention from Commissioner Abhijit Bangar to expedite the process.

In addition to these infrastructure developments, MP Vichare has successfully advocated for the approval and construction of two new pedestrian bridges, addressing the longstanding need for better connectivity for railway passengers. The bridges, constructed in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, are set to be inaugurated by January 26.

Furthermore, MP Vichare marked the welcoming of the Jalna CSMT Vande Bharat Express in Thane, where he, along with Shiv Sainiks, celebrated the launch of the train destined for Mumbai. The event was attended by officials of Pravasi Sangathan, Shiv Sena representatives, and enthusiastic activists.
