Mira Road: In yet another disturbing instance of resistance to digital payments, a 28-year-old woman was allegedly abused and assaulted by an autorickshaw driver near Mira Road railway station on May 10 evening.
According to the complaint filed at the Naya Nagar Police Station, the woman had boarded an autorickshaw to travel to Mira Road station. Upon reaching her destination, she attempted to pay the fare of Rs 51 in cash but realised she was short on cash. She then offered to pay the remaining amount digitally.
However, the driver allegedly refused to accept the online payment and insisted on receiving the full fare in cash. The woman, pressed for time, left Rs 45 — all the cash she had — on the driver's seat and attempted to exit the vehicle. This reportedly enraged the driver, who then began verbally abusing her and allegedly assaulted her in full public view.
Shocked and distressed, the woman proceeded to Naya Nagar police station and lodged a complaint. The autorickshaw driver was subsequently arrested.
