Mira-Bhayandar: A massive rally titled ‘Ahimsa Nyaya Maharally’ was held on April 23 in Mira-Bhayandar, demanding justice for Granth Mutha, whose death sparked outrage across the community.

He had drowned in the swimming pool of the Loknete Gopinath Munde Sports Complex, located in Bhayandar East on April 20.

However, there was no instructor or lifeguard at the time of the mishap.

The rally began at 7:45 AM from Ahinsa Chowk and concluded at the Navghar police station. Over 2,000 people joined the peaceful march.

Hasmukh Mutha, father of the deceased, voiced dissatisfaction with the police investigation so far. “We began this rally to demand justice for my son, Granth. Thousands have shown support. The police have assured us of further investigation, but we are still not satisfied with their efforts,” he said.

Mahendra Jain, Granth’s maternal grandfather, expressed scepticism about the inquiry. “We don’t believe justice will be served. Even after reaching the police station, the senior PI’s statement did not support us. Their role remains suspicious,” he remarked.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1 (MBVV), Prakash Gaikwad, acknowledged the public’s demands. “We have registered a case under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The rally saw over 2,000 participants who submitted a 19-point charter of demands, one of which is to invoke Section 105, which pertains to culpable homicide. We will seek legal counsel,” he stated.
