Kalyan: A day after a wall collapse in Kalyan’s Balyani locality left an 11-year-old dead and two others injured; Kalyan Dombivli civic corporation (KDMC) registered an FIR against the school.

The deceased, identified as Ansh Kumar Singh (11), and the injured – Abhishek Sahni (10) and Shoeib Sheikh (6), were residents of Krupa Chawl in Balyani – were students of KBK International School.

While initial media reports claimed the school was unauthorised, KDMC education officer Vijay Sarkate clarified that KBK International School was operating with government approval.

The wall, which was in a dilapidated condition, collapsed on the children who were playing nearby. The children were rescued when nearby residents rushed on hearing the sound of the collapse.

They were rushed to a private hospital, but as their injuries were serious, they were referred to Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan. Ansh Kumar Singh was declared dead, while the other two children were undergoing treatment.

KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goyal said, "We have registered an FIR against the school. A committee has been formed to investigate the matter and strict action will be taken against those found responsible."

"The Balyani incident highlights the urgent need for regular inspections and maintenance of school infrastructure in densely populated areas to prevent future accidents," a resident said.
