Kalyan: Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) is on high alert after the death of a 67-year-old man from Covid-19 even as four fresh cases were reported from various parts of the twin city.
The 67-year-old from Dombivli died due to Covid while undergoing treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Thane on May 28, KDMC medical officer Dr Deepa Shukla said. The deceased had hypertension and diabetes and had suffered paralysis due to a stroke 12 years ago.
Providing an update about the Covid situation, Dr Shukla said, two patients have been discharged while three people were undergoing treatment. Two were in hospital while one was in isolation at home, the official added.
"We are closely monitoring the situation in Kalyan. Citizens should not panic, but we appeal to everyone to remain cautious and follow Covid protocols,” she added.
KDMC has stepped up its Covid preparedness. Dedicated isolation wards have been set up at Shastri Nagar Hospital and Rukminibai Hospital.
A fully equipped RT-PCR testing laboratory is operational at Gauripada. Citizens with symptoms like fever, cough or cold are urged to get tested immediately and avoid self-medication, KDMC health officials said.
Early diagnosis and treatment are of utmost importance to prevent widespread spread, Dr Shukla said, even as she urged the public to seek treatment at municipal facilities instead of private clinics.
Meanwhile, the Thane Zilla Parishad has commenced a massive health survey in rural areas around Kalyan. Health workers are conducting door-to-door testing, with focus on vulnerable groups like senior citizens, pregnant women and people with chronic diseases.
