Gulf War: Gas supply crisis hits the city eateries

top-news

Navi Mumbai: The ongoing geopolitical tensions between Iran and Israel are beginning to affect local businesses in the city, particularly small and medium-sized hotels and mess operators. Sudden restrictions on the distribution of commercial gas have created a serious challenge for food service establishments that rely heavily on a regular fuel supply to operate.

Raising concern over the issue, Sachin Katare, spokesperson of the Republican Party of India (RPI) in Navi Mumbai, has appealed to the State Government to intervene and adopt a balanced approach to address the crisis. In a memorandum sent to the government, he urged authorities to implement a policy that ensures a continued fuel supply while maintaining necessary regulations.

Speaking about the situation, Katare said, “The crisis is not limited to the business community alone but directly affects the daily lives of ordinary citizens. This is not just a business issue; it is a question of survival for the common man. If hotels are forced to shut down or hike prices due to fuel shortages, the financial budget of thousands of students and workers will crumble,” he stated.

Navi Mumbai is a major employment hub that attracts thousands of workers, students, and professionals from across Maharashtra and other parts of the country. Many of them depend on small hotels and affordable eateries for their daily meals, as they often lack cooking facilities in their accommodation.

Hotel owners have expressed concern that disruptions in the global fuel supply chain have made it increasingly difficult to procure commercial gas cylinders. Many fear that if the situation continues without government support, several small eateries may be forced to close temporarily or increase food prices to sustain operations.
