Greater Mumbai Police Crowned MCA Corporate Trophy 'C' Division Champions

Greater Mumbai Police SC ‘B’ brilliant all-round performance paved the path for an convincing 9-wickets win over JSW Steel SC in the ‘C’ Division grand finale of the MCA Corporate Trophy 2023-24, that was organized by the Mumbai Cricket Association and played at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive on Thursday.

Electing to bat first, JSW Steel failed to rise to the challenge and were skittled out for a paltry 88 in 17.5 overs. Later, Mumbai Police easily surpassed the winning target reaching 90 for one wicket in 15 overs.

Mumbai Police playing with plenty of determination rocked the JSW Steel top order picking three early wickets with just five runs on the board in the second over. Both the openers Parag Jadhav (3) and captain Nitesh Koli (1) were run out and number three left-handed bat Ishaque Shaikh did not open his account. Thereafter, middle order batters Mohit Tamaichekar (33) and Ramesh Kami (19) managed to arrest the slide with a 43-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Mumbai Police bowlers, left-arm spinner Anuj Giri (2/ 29) and leg-spinner Swapnil (2/28) mesmerized the rival batters with their scuttle variations and struck at regular intervals to bowl out JSW Steel to a portly total.

Later, Mumbai Police trusted opening batting pair of Yash Ramchandani (40 not out off 39-balls) and Tanmay Mayekar (29) posted a 63 runs partnership for the first wicket against the JSW Steel bowlers in familiar conditions. Following the dismissal of Mayekar, Chintamani Kamble (12 not out) in the company of Ramchandani ensured no more setbacks and the team easily crossed the finish line with plenty to spare.

Mumbai Police left-arm spinner Anuj Giri who finished with figures of 2 for 29 was later declared as the ‘Player of the final’.
