Collects over 5,000 bottles

In a concerted effort to preserve the pristine beauty of the Sahyadri range, the Environment Life Foundation spearheaded a 'Plastic-Free-Sahyadri Clean Up Drive' at Malshej Ghat on May 11, yielding a remarkable haul of 5225 used plastic bottles within a 5-kilometer radius.

Supported by 21 dedicated volunteers from Navi Mumbai and partnering with Hello MTDC and Earth Day Network-India, the initiative marked a significant stride towards environmental conservation in the region.

Dharmesh Barai, Founder of ELF, emphasized the urgent need to safeguard the Sahyadri range, especially with the impending monsoon season drawing tourists to witness its natural splendour. Barai underscored the importance of raising awareness among visitors to protect the region from pollution, ensuring the sustenance of its tranquility and biodiversity.

While acknowledging the scale of the challenge, Barai expressed determination to continue such initiatives until the onset of monsoon, alongside endeavours to educate tourists about responsible tourism practices.

Echoing Barai's sentiments, he stressed the pivotal role of citizens in promoting sustainable habits, advocating for reduced plastic consumption, minimalist lifestyles, and proactive recycling efforts. Such initiatives, he emphasized, are vital for the conservation of crucial ecosystems like Malshej Ghat.
