Dombivli: Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation’s efforts to sustainable treatment of municipal waste got a big boost with Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde launching the Chennai-style solid waste management model on May 18.

The launch held at the Savalaram Maharaj Sports Complex Grounds in Dombivli East, was attended by prominent leaders including Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Kalyan MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, MLA Rajesh More, and MLA Sulbha Gaikwad, among others.

The initiative will make the city one of the cleanest not only in Maharashtra but also in the entire country. "A city's identity is linked to its cleanliness. This initiative is a proud step for our region," he said.

Speaking on national security, Shinde mentioned Operation Sindoor, which highlighted India's military prowess and the successful elimination of terrorists who posed a threat to the safety of Indian women.

He also stressed on the state government's focus on youth development. Through the Tata Skill Development Centre, over 7,000 students will be trained in robotics, artificial intelligence and drone technology.

Shinde also laid the foundation stone of a new Centre for Research, Innovation, Incubation and Training (CIIIT) run by Tata Technologies at Davadi on the Kalyan-Shilphata highway. The centre will serve as a hub for innovation and skill development for the youth of the region.

Strongly refuting rumours that the Ladki Bahin Yojana had been discontinued, Shinde said, "The opposition is spreading baseless rumours to mislead the public. The Ladki Bahin Yojana will continue.”
