Aadhaar card verification reveals fraud

During the NEET UG common examination held on Sunday for admission to medical degree courses, authorities apprehended a dummy student at the School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics College, D.Y. Patil University in CBD Belapur. The incident shed light on potential malpractices as the student attempted to take the exam on behalf of another individual.

The authorities, vigilant during the examination, detected irregular behaviour and subsequently handed over the impersonator to the CBD police. Identified under Section 419, 34, and Examination Act, the student was detained briefly before being released with a notice, pending further investigation.

The National Testing Agency, headquartered in New Delhi, has implemented measures to deter fraudulent activities during examinations. Among these measures, biometric attendance verification via Aadhaar card has been mandated for students both before and after the exam. However, discrepancies arose when the biometric data failed to match the Aadhaar card details provided by the impersonator.

Despite the mismatch, the invigilator allowed the student to proceed with the examination. Subsequent verification post-exam revealed further inconsistencies, prompting a deeper inquiry. Upon questioning, the impersonator confessed to assuming the identity of another individual during the exam.
