Dombivli News: Design Change for Kalyan Ring Road Phase-2 to Speed Up Project

Dombivli: With a view to accelerate work on the ambitious Kalyan Ring Road project, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to revise the design of Phase-2, which connects Shil Road to Mothagaon. The decision follows suggestions by Kalyan MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, who emphasised the need to clear land acquisition hurdles to fast-track the project.

Phase-2 had faced significant delays due to extensive land acquisition requirements. To overcome this, the revised design will now pass through open land near the creek, reducing both costs and time. Shinde also proposed removing encroachments in future phases to avoid similar delays. MMRDA commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee has supported the proposal.

The Kalyan Ring Road project, conceived by Dr Shinde, aims to improve connectivity between Kalyan, Dombivli, and Titwala. Out of the eight phases, four (from Durgadi Bridge to SH 35-40 Road Junction) are nearly complete and operational. Work on Phase-3 (Mothagaon to Govindwadi Road) is ongoing and expected to finish soon. Land acquisition is in progress for Phase-1 (Hedutane to Shil Road).

Phase-2 had emerged as a major bottleneck due to land issues. With the new design route minimising land acquisition, officials are hopeful of faster implementation.

Once complete, the project will significantly ease travel within the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation area and boost regional connectivity.
