Draw final league encounter against Millat FC to ensure unbeaten record
Debutant Might Young Joe - Goalorious Mother Sports Club (MYJ-GMSC) coached by Navi Mumbai based Vijith Shetty, a National Games Bronze Medalist and former Maharashtra Santosh Trophy captain, played out a hard fought 1-1 draw against with strong contenders Millat FC in their concluding Mumbai Football Association Premier (Private) League Division match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League 2023-2024 that was at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra.
Having showcased immense resilience and skill throughout the course of the 16-team league while maintaining an unbeaten record, MYJ-GMSC under the leadership of Kamlesh Nadar who with his wealth of experience of playing in I-League 2nd Division and being part of the winning teams of the likes of Srinagar based Real Kashmir and Pune based DSK Shivajians in one of the oldest league football competition in Asia, the Calcutta Football League (CFL) inspired his team to pole position with an unassailable tally of 41 points from 13 wins, and two draws and ensured that they were officially crowned champions.
Kamlesh who scored the all-important match winning goal in his team’s narrow 1-0 win over MH Oranje FC (who too were in a three way race for the title ) in their penultimate league match, later not only manned the defense with aplomb but also marshaled his teammates, in ensuring his team held on to its shape against the onslaught unleashed by their rivals against Millat FC in a fiercely contested encounter that was played in front of a large gathering of supporters who had turned up to support their respective teams.
The match witnessed plenty of exciting moments as both teams played an attacking game throughout and worked hard to break down the rival defences.
MYJ-GM SC whose Vice-captain Tejas Raut played a key role in driving his team forward, infact broke the deadlock through Karthik Raju opening strike from the right wing in the 20th minute after he found the back of the net, with a deft lobby over an advancing Millat FC goalkeeper Piyush Gupta.
However, their defence came under tremendous pressure from the Millat FC attackers soon after who managed to restore parity 13 minutes later when Duane D’Souza from a snap effort fired past the MYJ-GMSC custodian Sumeet Salian.
With the score tied 1-1 at half time, both teams went all out in search of more goals on post the break, but all their efforts proved futile. The Navi Mumbai based Coached MYJ-GMSC earned a free kick in the final minute of the match but failed to find the target, ensuring that the match finished in an engrossing 1-1 draw.
Millat FC with 30 points played their last match against The Oranje FC who have 29 points from 13 matches.
Results (MFA Premier (Private) League Division):
