CR to undertake major mega block from May 31st onwards

This mega block will facilitate platform extension and widening projects at CSMT and Thane station
The Central Railway (CR) has announced a significant infrastructure upgrade that will affect train services from midnight on May 30/31 to the afternoon of June 2, 2024. This special block is necessary to extend Platform 10/11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and widen Platform 5/6 at Thane to improve passenger movement and accommodate longer trains.
“A crucial block will be carried out from May 31st - June 2nd at CSMT & Thane. This is to extend platform 10/11, widening of platform 5/6 in Thane for better passenger movement & NI work,” said Central Railway chief PRO Swapnil Nila.
Nila further stated, “We strive to minimize cancellations and request passengers to limit travel, emphasizing the necessity of travelling only when it is truly unavoidable.”
Central Railway’s Mumbai Division will operate a 63-hour special block at Thane for the widening of Platform 5/6 and a 36-hour special block at CSMT for non-interlocking (NI) works related to the extension of platforms 10/11 to accommodate 24-coach trains.
The 63-hour block at Thane will commence at 00:30 hrs on May 31, 2024 (Thursday/Friday midnight) and continue until 15:30 hrs on June 2, 2024 (Sunday afternoon).
The block section includes the UP Slow Line from Kalva (including CSMT end crossovers) to Thane (including all crossovers), the DN Fast Line from Thane (including all crossovers) to Kalva (including all crossovers), and the UP Fast Line from Kalva (including all crossovers) to Thane (including all crossovers).
The 36-hour block at CSMT will start at 00:30 hrs on May 31, 2024 (Friday/Saturday midnight) and end at 12:30 hrs on June 2, 2024 (Sunday afternoon).
The block section includes the UP and DOWN Harbour lines between CSMT (including) and Vadala Road (excluding), the UP and DOWN slow lines between CSMT (including) and Byculla (excluding), and the UP and DOWN fast lines between CSMT (including) and Byculla (excluding).
During this period, 930 suburban services will be canceled. This includes 161 services on May 31, 2024 (Friday), 534 services on June 1, 2024 (Saturday), and 235 services on June 2, 2024 (Sunday).
In addition to cancellations, 444 suburban services will be short-terminated, with 7 services on May 31, 2024 (Friday), 306 services on June 1, 2024 (Saturday), and 131 services on June 2, 2024 (Sunday). Furthermore, 446 suburban services will short-origin, with 307 services on June 1, 2024 (Saturday) and 139 services on June 2, 2024 (Sunday).
Central Railway urges all establishments to provide their staff the opportunity to work from home or use other means to reduce the number of passengers during these days. Passengers are requested to avoid traveling on these days or undertake travel only if absolutely necessary to help reduce crowding on platforms.
