Bhiwandi: A review meeting of the action committee formed to tackle Bhiwandi city's traffic congestion was held on 16 April under Anmol Sagar, BNCMC Administrator and Commissioner.
The committee, comprising officers from the Police Department and the civic body, was initially formed on 6 March to devise and implement effective traffic management measures.
During the meeting, the Commissioner instructed officials to take strict action, primarily through the Transport Department, against unauthorised and unlicensed rickshaws. The Police Department requested that the ongoing special drive against out-of-jurisdiction vehicles, unlicensed vehicles, and those without fitness certificates be extended for two more months to ease traffic congestion.
The Commissioner also called for action against unauthorised rickshaw stands and directed that abandoned vehicles on city roads and under flyovers be removed immediately. If not, such vehicles will be labelled and seized, with disposal responsibility resting with the Transport Department.
Furthermore, the Commissioner instructed the Property Department to examine the unused municipal parking lot at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and make it available for free public use. A report has been requested on priority.
